BRIEF HISTORY OF CHERAS GOSPEL CENTRE
It has been 19 years since the Cheras Gospel
Centre (CGC) was established at the present premises in Taman
Biliun, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, but Christian witness began earlier.
In 1977, a group of Christians from Jalan Imbi Chapel (JIC), residing
in Cheras, started a prayer group and later, a Sunday School in
the area. The work progressed steadily. Besides the Sunday School
and Prayer meetings, Youth meetings, Ladies' meetings, evangelistic
meetings and door-to-door tracting were conducted.
In April 1981, we moved to the present premises,
purchased from the JIC Project Fund. The first worship meeting
and communion service in the new building (a shophouse) was
held on January 3, 1982.
This is a brief record of the significant
milestones in the history of CGC. We thank GOD for His guidance
and provision over the years. Beyond movements and events, GOD
is also at work in the lives of people. Some parents of our
Sunday School children and youths have come to know the Lord
as their personal Saviour. Through the teaching of GOD's word,
lives have been changed. Although our church membership has
not increased significantly - presently, about 80+, the Sunday
School and Youth meetings are well attended. It is encouraging
to note that at least half our membership are actively involved
in an area of service. Almost all our members belong to a Home
Fellowship Group which was started in 1991 where bible study,
prayer and caring for one another are carried out.
Let us remember that "... He who began
a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the
day of Christ (Phil 1:6)." God is at work in us to equip
us with everything good for doing His will. Let us commit ourselves
to Him afresh that He may work in us what is pleasing to Him,
through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
